Our partnership with Portsmouth Regional Hospital, our sister hospital, ensures 24/7 support for neurological conditions provided by a full-time staff of specialists and intensivists—physicians who specialize in caring for critically ill patients. When you return to Parkland, we’ll continue to monitor your progress and communicate with your primary care provider.
If a stroke is suspected, our Certified Pulmonary Stroke Center can provide immediate, lifesaving stroke treatment. After stabilization, patients benefit from excellent stroke care and access to collaborative care across our own programs and through a partnership with Portsmouth Regional.
Diagnosing nervous system conditions
Detailed images are key to accurately screening and treating brain and nervous system conditions. Our advanced diagnostic tests include:
- Electroencephalograms (EEG)
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Computed tomography (CT) scans
- Neurosurgical ultrasounds
An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that uses sensors to evaluate electrical brain activity (brain waves). This test can help neurologists diagnose a variety of neurological disorders, from common headaches to strokes and dementia. We also use EEGs to determine the causes of psychiatric symptoms and disabilities in children.
During an EEG, your technician will place electrodes in various places on your scalp. These record activity in different regions of the brain. An EEG is painless and usually takes about 60 minutes.
Appointments for electroencephalography are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please call (603) 421-2240.
Rehabilitation is an important part of returning to life as fully as possible following a stroke or other neurological event. We support this step of your recovery through physical and speech therapy designed to help you regain function. Also, through our relationship with Portsmouth Regional, we can refer patients to neurosurgeons when more advanced care is needed.
