The goal of inpatient treatment is to provide quality care in a safe and nurturing environment. We understand that this can be a time of great stress and may result in many questions or concerns about the admission process and what to expect. We hope to provide the guidance necessary to ensure a therapeutic stay during your time with us.

Visiting hours are as follows:

Mon - Fri: 12:15pm - 1:15pm & 6:00pm - 7:15pm
Sat & Sun: 12:15pm - 2:00pm & 5:15pm - 7:15pm

Due to the limited amount of space, one visitor per person will be permitted to visit on the unit at a time. If more than one visitors arrives, each visitor will be asked to switch out in order to ensure all visitors receive time with the patient. Staff will accommodate more visitors per patient as space on the unit allows it. Please also note that depending on each situation, staff has the right to further restrict the amount of visitors depending on the safety of the unit. Visits outside of visiting hours are generally not permitted. We know family and peer support is vital to your recovery, and we encourage each patient to schedule a family meeting to discuss your treatment prior to discharge. These meetings can be held outside of visiting hours.

Recovery can mean a lot of things; you get to decide what it means to you. We are here to help you begin the process of improving your physical and emotional health, wellness and quality of life. Our program provides you with a secure and stable environment that assists you with regaining control of your life. Individuals come to the Behavioral Health Unit for a variety of reasons, with a wide array of symptoms and needs we encourage patients to make the most of their hospitalization by committing to:

  • Attend groups and engage with others to receive the benefits of therapeutic support
  • Initiate aftercare planning with the help of your treatment team
  • Establish healthy eating, sleeping and self-care patterns
  • Assume responsibility for your own recovery
  • Commit to making positive changes for self-improvement
  • Utilize the support of staff for guidance and resource information
  • Remain accountable for addressing and keeping track of your needs
  • Accept that recovery is an ongoing process that needs your diligent attention
  • Assess your current support network
  • Reflect on what makes your life meaningful
  • Remain realistically focused in your goals and thinking
  • Try to focus on solutions instead of problems
  • Request information about your diagnosis
  • Create a safety plan
  • Focus on your own crisis while in the hospital
  • Give yourself credit where credit is due

We believe you can’t put a number on the length of time it takes someone to learn new ways to cope and recover. Many insurance companies authorize several days at a time. Our Case Management team works with your insurance carrier to advocate for the length of time you need.

Safety and comfort are important to us, as is the comfort and safety of the community within the unit. All items not allowed on the unit reflect items that are safety issues and/or items that could potentially cause a breach of privacy.

What NOT to Bring

In order for our unit to remain a secure environment, we do not allow any items that may be harmful and/or a distraction to patients or others. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Glass/plastic items
  • Matches/lighters
  • Sharp objects/nail clippers
  • Electronic devices
  • Personal hygiene items containing alcohol
  • Clothing depicting drugs, alcohol or violence
  • Makeup
  • Personal blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals
  • Food/beverages from outside
  • Weapons
  • Aerosol cans
  • Objects containing metal
  • Belts and laces
  • Items containing substances

Staff reserves the right to prohibit any items if there is a safety or therapeutic concern.

If possible, send any valuable items home with friends or family members. Any valuable items can be locked on the unit in our patient lockers. Additionally, we can send items to the hospital safe. Any medication labeled in pharmacy containers will be sent to our pharmacy.

What TO Bring

Personal items and bags brought in upon admission and during visiting hours will be inspected by staff. On admission, staff will take an inventory of everything that the individual has brought with them. Individuals will be allowed to keep all unrestricted items with them and those items will become their responsibility.

Individuals are encouraged to bring the following:

  • Three to four changes of casual, comfortable clothes (storage is limited)
  • Pajamas or nightgowns, without draw strings
  • Shoes or slippers that do not require laces and do not have buckles or objects that are considered unsafe.
  • Jacket or sweater based on the weather
  • Orthotics will be considered by the MD and ordered as appropriate to patient safety.

First, you’ll meet with a member of our admissions team to complete required paperwork. Our staff will check your personal belongs, clothes and bags; restricted items must be sent home with a family member or secured in our locked storage. A staff member will conduct a unit tour and orient you to the procedures of the unit. Additionally, you will be provided with an admission folder to help you stay organized during your stay.

Depending on the number of inpatients at a given time, you may share a room or you may have a room to yourself. In addition to a bed, nightstand and storage cubby, our patient rooms include a private bathroom with a toilet and shower.

The Behavioral Health Unit has several common areas for patients to utilize. We encourage patients to spend time outside their room and socialize with peers. The common areas are available to all patients during non-group times and close at 11:00pm.

Part of building a healthy routine is eating on a regular basis. We have set times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition to your meals, the Hospital provides snacks, drinks and non-caffeinated coffee. Patients are allowed to order caffeinated coffee with their breakfast meal. While we are unable to allow you to bring in your own food and beverages, we are able provide many options for you and take into account any dietary concerns you may have.

We want you to spend most of your time focused on your recovery, so cellphones are not permitted on the unit. Individuals will have access to the hospital telephones when group sessions are not in progress.

All linen and bedding such as sheets, blankets and pillows will be provided by the hospital. The hospital will also provide approved personal hygiene items such as shampoo, soap/body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, combs and lotion.

The Behavioral Health Unit has its own washer and dryer for laundry when needed.

To ensure effective communication with individuals and their companions who are deaf, hard of hearing or in need of an interpreter, we provide appropriate auxiliary aids and services free of charge, such as: sign language and oral interpreters, video remote interpreting services, TTYs, written materials, telephone handset amplifiers, assistive listening devices and systems, telephones compatible with hearing aids, and televisions with caption capability. Please notify your admission team upon arrival if you need assistance.
