Derry, NH – Parkland Medical Center and Parkland Physician Services' Diabetes and Endocrinology program is offering free information about preventing and controlling diabetes as well as tips and ideas for adjusting favorite family recipes to take away some of the calories while keeping all of the flavor.

This event is being presented in partnership with the Town of Derry Health Department.

The program, presented by Corinne Chaar, Registered Dietitian and Diabetes Self Management Education Coordinator at Parkland, will be helpful for those with diabetes or pre-diabetes, as well as anyone looking to introduce healthy habits into their holiday traditions. Attendees can also sample healthy menu items from local restaurants such as Applebee's and T-Bones.

The event will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21 at the Derry Municipal Center, 14 Manning Street. Chaar will also offer two 20-minute presentations at noon and 1 p.m. There is no cost to attend.

If current health trends continue, one out of every three adults in the United States will have diabetes by the year 2050. However, people with pre-diabetes who lose five to seven percent of body weight and get at least 150 minutes a week of moderate physical activity can reduce their risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes by 58 percent.
