Derry, NH – Parkland Medical Center was awarded an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group’s fall 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, marking an eighth consecutive ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade for the hospital. The designation recognizes Parkland Medical Center’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the United States.
Parkland is the only hospital in New Hampshire to receive an ‘A’ Grade Hospital Safety score for the past eight consecutive terms, and is one of only two New Hampshire hospitals for this term to receive an ‘A’ grade. HCA Healthcare’s other New Hampshire hospitals, Portsmouth Regional Hospital and Frisbie Memorial Hospital, were also recognized by Leapfrog with respective grades of an ‘A’ for Portsmouth and ‘B’ for Frisbie.
“I’m incredibly proud of our medical staff and support teams for their unwavering commitment to our patients and to our mission focused on the care and improvement of human life,” said John Skevington, chief executive officer of Parkland Medical Center. “Receiving the Leapfrog Hospital Safety ‘A’ Grade for an eighth consecutive time is a validation of the commitment our entire staff makes to the communities we serve every day and demonstrates how we continue to be a leader for patient safety in New Hampshire.”
The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers. Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
“We are extremely grateful to hospital leadership and health care workers who have remained steadfast in prioritizing patient safety as our nation battles COVID-19,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This ‘A’ is a testament to the care and commitment of those who work for Parkland Medical Center. With the current pandemic exposing existing flaws within the U.S. health care system, we appreciate you putting patient safety first. Lives depend on it.”
