Look Good….Feel Better

Parkland Medical Center hosts a “Look Good…Feel Better” Program for women with cancer. The program is open to any woman receiving treatment or who has recently completed treatment for cancer. The program is collaboration between the American Cancer Society and make-up industry. “Look Good….Feel Better” includes a 12-step skin care/make-up application lesson, and professional advice on wigs, scarves, accessories, and nail care techniques. Participants will receive makeover tips and personal attention from trained professionals and cosmetologist. A complimentary cosmetic kit with a helpful instructions booklet will be given to each participant. For more information, please call Barbara Umansky, Oncology Social Worker, at (603) 537-2060.

Lymphedema Management

Lymphedema is the congestion of lymphatic fluid due to injury, surgery or disease. Specialists provide an evaluation of your lymphedema and develop a management plan with you. The plan may include education, massage, exercise or compression wrapping to control Lymphedema. For further information call: (603) 537-2060.

Lymphedema Support Group

Parkland Medical Center offers a discussion on Lymphedema. This informational discussion is open to any individual who suffers from Lymphedema as a result of a surgical procedure, radiation therapy, trauma, or infection. A support group for individuals suffering from Lymphedema is offered the third Thursday of each month. Participants will be provided with an interactive discussion and share advice on how to cope with Lymphedema. For more information, please call Barbara Umansky, Oncology Social Worker, at (603) 537-2060.

Pelvic Pain

Chronic pelvic pain is often caused by increased tension and spasms in the pelvic floor musculature. A physical therapist can help you by assessing and treating potential triggers for this condition. Generally patients go for therapy once a week and perform an individualized home exercise program while not at therapy. For further information call: (603) 421-2250.

Pre-Operative Breast Cancer

Pre-Operative appointments are done before breast surgery to give you an idea of what to expect with regard to shoulder motion, strength and functional ability after surgery. It gives therapists the benefit to get to know you before surgery. This also allows them to give you an individual program to restore your arm motion and strength back to YOUR normal. For further information call: (603) 421-2250

Post-Operative Breast Cancer

With the information obtained through the pre-operative and post-operative evaluations, therapists are able to create a program specific to your post- operative needs. It is expected that you would have one to two post-operative appointments. Patients will also be instructed on how to detect Lymphedema or skin infections and learn how to help prevent Lymphedema from occurring. For further information call: (603) 421-2250.

Prenatal Services

For the pregnant woman, Parkland Medical Center offers both Physical and Occupational Therapy to treat musculoskeletal disorders such as sciatica, piriformis syndrome, disc-related dysfunction, soft tissue restrictions, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
