Breast Feeding Services
Breast Feeding Services
The Family Birthing Center at Parkland Medical Center is committed to providing an environment that supports women in their desire to breastfeed.
Our Lactation Consultants are board certified through the International Board of Lactation Consultants Examiners (IBCLC)
You can contact the Lactation Consultants anytime in your pregnancy or after delivery, to meet them, have your breastfeeding questions answered or to inquire about breastfeeding supplies.
Mothers from our community and surrounding towns are welcome to call with breastfeeding concerns and are able to schedule outpatient appointments with us whether you delivered at Parkland Medical Center or elsewhere.
About Our Services
Inpatient Visits - this consult gives every mother the opportunity to get breastfeeding off to a great start. New mothers learn breastfeeding techniques that give her confidence in her ability to feed her baby. Mothers are able to recognize effective breast feedings, so once they are home they know when to call with concerns. The consult also provides the most current information regarding maternal diet, medications and breastfeeding, exercise, BSE and breast milk storage.
Outpatient Visits - these consults are provided to mothers who are discharged home from the hospital but need further follow-up to assess breastfeeding progress of their babies, women who are concerned about milk supply, baby weight checks, and women requiring breastfeeding support for babies with special needs. (premature babies, twins and multiples, cleft lip/palate, Downs Syndrome or slow weight gain)
Nursing Accessories
Although you really don't need much to breast feed, just you and baby, we can provide information about accessories you can use to make the process more comfortable and convenient.
- Nursing bras and pads - bra fittings are done by calling for an appointment
- Nursing pillows
- Breast Pump Rentals
- Slings / baby carriers
- Breast pumps when you are working, or away from baby
